VOG: Ladies and Gentlemen ... Hyundai is proud to introduce ... the 2011 Sonata 2.0T. Ladies and gentlemen ... Please welcome the President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America... John Krafcik. Sonata 2.0T Overview Good afternoon everyone ... and welcome to our first of two media events at this year’s New York Auto Show. This press conference is all about our growing Sonata line-up – with two extremely exciting additions to talk about. This impressive Sonata 2.0T is the first to grid. Now, to put this vehicle in context, let’s go back a few months to when we debuted the 2011 Sonata at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In L.A., we talked about Hyundai's Blue Drive strategy, a commitment to deliver the most fuel efficient line-up in the industry ... without sacrificing driving excitement. And we're not alone. Global automakers are working to bring new fuel-efficient technologies to market, such as gasoline direct-injection, twin-scroll turbochargers and full hybrids. With today's premier, Sonata becomes the first vehicle in the industry to offer all three of these technologies... While leaving the V6 behind. But we realize there are those who are already feeling nostalgic for V6 power ... and I think we’ve got the cure right here. The 2011 Sonata 2.0T has just two liters of displacement. But with direct injection, and a twin-scroll turbocharger, it makes some pretty impressive horsepower. How impressive? Keep going... a little more... Right ... there! Yup. Our turbocharged Sonata generates 274 horsepower. That’s more power than its V6 competitors ... Honda Accord... Toyota Camry... or Ford Fusion ... or Nissan Altima. It’s also a heck of a lot more powerful than the turbo-fours found in the VW Passat and the upcoming Buick Regal. But I know what some of you are thinking: "What about torque?" That's what you really feel when you accelerate. Well, we've got another nice surprise. The Sonata 2.0T also delivers class-leading torque. It surpasses both its four-cylinder and V6 competitors with 269 foot-pounds of torque. And here's what's really cool: all that torque is available at just 1,800 rpms ... with regular fuel. And it gets even better. Because with the turbo, there’s no gas-mileage penalty. It delivers 22 mpg in the city, and 34 mpg on the highway. Its highway mileage is unsurpassed by any four-cylinder competitor ... Yet it's got more power than any V6 competitor. How's that for the best of both worlds! A big contributor to these performance numbers is the combination of direct injection with a twin-scroll turbocharger, which is unique in this vehicle segment. A twin-scroll turbo helps to minimize “turbo lag,” providing a smooth and predictable boost in power at various engine speeds. It also makes more complete use of exhaust gas, so there’s less energy wasted ... and fewer emissions. Its benefits are increased further by gasoline direct injection, which helps create a cooler, denser charge, compared to typical port injection. This impressive engine is coupled to Hyundai’s internally developed 6-speed automatic transmission--the lightest, most compact 6-speed automatic in production today. With its silky-smooth shifting, and manual SHIFTRONIC with paddle shifters, it really adds to the fun of driving the Sonata 2.0T. The Hyundai Sonata Turbo will be manufactured at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, right alongside our 2.4-liter Sonata, and begin arriving in Hyundai dealerships this fall. While it’s still too early to reveal final pricing, we are committed to delivering a well-equipped Sonata 2.0T at less than $25,000. Pretty exciting news. Now ... let's take a look at the next addition to our Hyundai line. It's another important component of our Blue Drive strategy ... also coming to Hyundai showrooms later this year. Take a look. Introducing ... the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. John Krafick: Our technology, by contrast, has been developed for people who need and want great city and highway mileage. Sonata Hybrid can operate in all-electric mode at steady-state speeds of up to 62 miles per hour. We project that Sonata will deliver a class-leading EPA rating of 39 miles per gallon on the highway ... better than Camry Hybrid, Altima Hybrid, Fusion Hybrid and the Lexus HS250h. In city driving, it delivers 37 mpg. That's 54% better than our already efficient base Sonata. Another dramatic difference: Our competitors' hybrids all use a Continuously Variable Transmission. But like most enthusiasts, we prefer the more connected feel of a six-speed automatic, revving through the gears. And ours is the first hybrid to offer it. So there's really no compromising the joy of driving. That same principle applies to the Sonata Hybrid's interior. It offers class-leading passenger volume, just like our other Sonata models. There's also the same suite of technology and safety features. Things like XM Satellite Radio™ ... A touch-screen Navigation system with real-time NavTraffic... HD Radio Technology™ with Multicasting ... And Standard Bluetooth® There's also an "Eco Guide" display that scores your driving habits to help you maximize your fuel economy. It's a great way to put competitive personality types – like myself –into the right mindset for efficiency. Safety features include ultra-high-strength steel body structure, advanced airbag technology and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This is the first hybrid that really does let you have it all: Excellent fuel economy and ultra-low emissions ... Rewarding dynamic performance ... Class-leading passenger volume ... and first-to-market standard technologies. It will be arriving in Hyundai dealerships in time for the holiday shopping season, and we'll have pricing to share with you when we're closer to launch. This is what Hyundai's Blue Drive initiative is all about. Today, Hyundai leads the industry in average fuel economy. In fact, we have for the past two years. We're still the only brand to exceed 30 miles per gallon on average. With the Sonata 2.0T and Sonata Hybrid joining the family, we'll continue to lead the industry to a cleaner and more efficient future, without diminishing fun and excitement, while putting some space between ourselves and our competitors. We sincerely appreciate your attendance here today. And we promise a very exciting second chapter tomorrow ... when we launch the Equus ... our all-new luxury flagship. It all starts back here at 10:45 a.m. We look forward to seeing you then. Now, we invite you to have a closer look at the Sonata 2.0T ... and the Sonata Hybrid. I'll be here to answer your questions along with our Vice President of Sales, Dave Zuchowski; our National Manager of Product Planning, Scott Margason; and Sonata Product Manager, Michael Deitz. I'll also be taking questions from our Webcast audience in our "Hyundai Post-Game Show." Thanks for coming
